It started with a sauce that didn’t exist.
Twenty-three attempts, one very patient family, and a kitchen in Pyrford, Surrey.
It started with one simple idea: a hot sauce that could be good enough to sit on the table with the ketchup and mayo - not just saved for the spicy wings.
Lawrence, the founder of The Surrey Sauce Co. (and yes the face on the lid) is comfortably outnumbered at home: four kids, one cat and his partner Vix. But amongst all his passions, good food sits firmly up there with his love for good music, good company and good vibes.
Lawrence has grown up in Surrey. He is a DJ, a music producer, a designer and web developer who has spent his life obsessed with getting things exactly right so that joy and great memories are formed every time. He loves sharing his time between being the fun dad, online expert gamer, party thrower and BBQ King. He is happiest with a great day, a good playlist and will try any food in any city…at least once!
He’ll insist he is just a bloke who really likes a bit of hot sauce, but his cupboards will suggest otherwise.
"We’re small and proudly so. Everything is still made in small batches in our kitchen. Every batch is taste-tested by friends and family, and judgingly observed at a distance by our cat Genie (spot her on the label). I couldn’t find what I wanted so I decided to make it.
This isn’t just a sauce to me, it is an extended part of me and my love for all things joyful. I am constantly experimenting and want to make a family of sauces and condiments that genuinely put a smile on your face when you taste it. This isn’t a side project, this is a genuine passion of mine that I want to share with the world!”

I’m obsessed with hot sauce. Always have been. After years of hunting for the perfect table hot sauce and coming up empty, I decided to make it myself. It took me 23 attempts to get it exactly right, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Every bottle carries the whole family, each of us drawn as a little icon, cat included. We were the original taste-test panel, and every new batch still has to get past us before it gets to you.
That’s the standard: if the family doesn’t reach for it, it doesn’t leave the kitchen.
